Project Updates
bulleted list: blue arrow   Highway 25 Bypass Open to Traffic

The Council of San Benito County Governments is
pleased to announce that the Highway 25 Bypass is
open to traffic. The new road opened just after 11:00
a.m. on Thursday, February 5. Minor work on drainage
inlets and other items is still ongoing and will be
completed under traffic control and lane closures as
needed. It is anticipated that all work will be complete by
    the end of February.

The speed limit is 35 miles per hour and in compliance
with the State of California's design standards for this
type of roadway. The road is an 'urban arterial', which
requires a lower speed limit than an expressway or
highway. The Council of Governments will monitor
traffic over the course of the next year and will consider
adjustments as may be necessary due to traffic
    conditions.

Council of Governments' staff is working with Caltrans,
the City of Hollister, and San Benito County to complete
the transfer of the route to Caltrans. We anticipate that
the transfer will be complete in 14-18 months. Once the
transfer is complete, the City of Hollister will own and
maintain San Benito Street and Tres Pinos Road and
Caltrans will own and maintain the new roadway.

Questions and comments on the project can be directed
